3 October 2012 Manz presents CIGS world record module with efficiency of 14.6 % at PV Taiwan
The German high-tech engineering firm Manz will present a technological breakthrough at the Taiwan International Photovoltaic Exhibition (PV Taiwan) on October 3 to 5 in Taipei. At booth A0237, Manz will show its CIGS panel that – with a module efficiency of 14.6% and an aperture efficiency of 15.9% – set a world record for thin-film solar modules.

The German high-tech engineering firm Manz AG has complemented its range of products for the thin-film solar market with an innovative vacuum system for vertically coating substrates. In this case, “complement” means adding an additional component to the Manz Total Fab Solution for thin-film panel manufacturers, a process concept whose components are mutually coordinated with each other and is already established in the market.

Manz AG has entered the market for vacuum-coating systems used in the production of crystalline solar cells with a fully automated system for front- and back side coating. The VCS 1200 PECVD system coats the front and back sides of a vertically positioned silicon wafer with a throughput of up to 1,200 wafers per hour.

The German high-tech engineering firm Manz has achieved a technological breakthrough: its integrated production line for CIGS thin-film solar panels, the Manz CIGSfab, can be used to manufacture solar panels that in the future will supply power costing between four euro cents (Spain) and eight euro cents (Germany) per kilowatt hour, depending on the location. This means the cost of solar power is now at a similar cost level as electricity from fossil power plants and is significantly less expensive than electricity from offshore wind parks. Factoring in taxes and duties as well as the rapidly increasing costs of fossil fuels, the green electricity clearly trumps the competition.
