  • Major order in the lower double-digit million scale in the field of consumer electronics
  • Successful entry into the technology segment of assembly automation with an innovative assembly system
  • Trend toward automated assembly in Asia offers high potential for follow-on orders

Manz AG, one of the world’s leading high-tech engineering companies with an extensive technology portfolio covering the three strategic divisions of "Display", "Solar" and "Battery", has received a major order in the Display division running into the lower two-digit million Euro scale. The order comprises systems and equipment for the fully automated assembly of electronic devices. With this first major order, Manz AG is benefiting from the trend toward automation in Asian countries, particularly in China. The order will have an impact on revenues and earnings in the second half of 2014.

With its modular and fully automated assembly system, Manz AG offers production solutions that are an exact fit for the needs of the consumer electronics industry, applying its decades of technological know-how in the fields of robotics, automation, image processing as well as control and laser technology. The target customers for these newly developed machines are, for example, producers of smartphones, tablet computers and notebooks as well as their suppliers. By standardizing the machine components, Manz AG provides an excellent cost-benefit ratio along with short delivery periods. At the same time, the modular design of the equipment makes it easy to reuse the machines over several product generations. These properties are crucial investment criteria in an industry characterized by relatively short product cycles.

Dieter Manz, CEO and founder of Manz AG, comments: "This order has enabled us to enter the technology segment of assembly automation. This opens up the huge potential that increasing automation in Asia's manufacturing companies offers us as a high-tech engineering company." The drivers behind this trend are rising wage costs in countries like China, requirements for consistently high product quality, but also issues like the protection of intellectual property. What stands Manz AG in good stead here is that, with locations in Germany, Taiwan and China, the company offers German engineering at locally competitive prices. Dieter Manz assesses interest in the market as being correspondingly high: "The trend in Asia is clearly moving toward automation. Not only manufacturers of industrial robots, but also, and in particular, companies like Manz AG, with its extensive know-how in the use and integration of robots in production systems, benefits from this. With our service and production locations in China and Taiwan, we are excellently positioned in this market. In view of this, we see very good opportunities for follow-up orders for our automated assembly systems not only in the field of consumer electronics, but also in other industries."
