  • New order from one of Asia's largest components manufacturers for touch panel technology
  • "Windows 8" as further draw for Display segment

Manz AG, one of the world's leading high-tech mechanical engineering companies with an extensive technology portfolio for the three strategic business units "Display", "Solar" and "Battery", has received a new order totalling EUR 20.8 million in its Display segment. The order comprises systems and plants for the production of components for touch panel applications, including components for a new generation of touch-enabled terminals based on the “Windows 8” operating system. The order will largely become effective in terms of revenue and earnings in the coming financial year. In this highest-growth and most promising market for touch screen panels, such as for smart phones or tablet PCs, this order provides further evidence of the growth potential inherent in Manz AG's Display business unit.

The ordered equipment includes systems for wet-chemical processes for substrates in the most varied types of formats. Manz AG, along with its subsidiary Manz Taiwan, draws on more than 20 years of in-depth technology know-how in this area. Manz Taiwan is the market leader in Asia in the area of wet-chemical systems for the production of flat panel displays (FPDs), and, with more than 2,000 systems installed, offers outstanding technical expertise. In addition to its technological know-how, Manz AG also benefits from its "follow the market" strategy – Manz AG's regional market proximity to its customers worldwide. As a consequence, the company is able to offer its Asian customers German engineering skills at local prices. Manz holds a significant technology edge over local manufacturers in Asia, as well as cost advantages compared with European providers. Overall, Manz - with its production, research and development sites in Taiwan and China, and a total of around 900 staff - commands outstanding market access to the world's largest growth market of Asia.

Dieter Manz, CEO of Manz AG, expressed his pleasure at this new order: "We are proud that, at the end of 2012, we have won a further major order in our high-growth Display business unit. This represents a clear success of our diversification strategy, setting a positive signal for the coming financial year. Particularly due to Microsoft's new "Windows 8", we identify significant opportunities to dynamically expand our Display business unit, and we are negotiating further major orders in this environment. At the same time, this also allows us to gradually compensate for the current sharp decline of revenues in the photovoltaic segment."
