Manz AG: Orders underscore expertise in electric powertrain and increasing growth momentum in electromobility

08/10/2021 10:00:00 CEST, Reutlingen Automotive supplier TE Connectivity orders further machines for automated assembly of cell contact systems | American electric vehicle manufacturer acquired as new customer | Service portfolio for the electric powertrain expanded to include assembly solutions for the manufacture of inverters | Cumulative order volume in the lower double-digit million-euro range

As expected, Manz AG, a globally active high-tech engineering company with a comprehensive technology portfolio, is recording increasing momentum in the field of electromobility. This is underlined by further orders from new and existing customers in the automotive industry, as well as the expansion of the service portfolio to include assembly solutions for the manufacture of inverters. The cumulative order volume is in the lower double-digit million-euro range and will partially impact revenues and earnings this year and next year.

Manz AG received another follow-up order in the field of cell contacting systems from the automotive supplier and long-standing existing customer TE Connectivity. In previous years, Manz had already successfully delivered and installed several fully integrated assembly lines and various expansions for existing lines to TE Connectivity. On the one hand, the new order once again underlines the high level of customer satisfaction. On the other hand, it reflects the rapidly increasing demand from automobile manufacturers for cell contacting systems as a central component of the electric drive train. Cell contacting systems connect individual battery cells to form modules and take care of power collection as well as various sensor functions for battery management, such as measuring temperature and voltage.

In addition, Manz AG has acquired an American manufacturer of electric vehicles as a new customer. Together with the US company, Manz developed innovative laser process technologies and assembly lines for manufacturing inverters within a short period of time. This was possible thanks to successful simultaneous engineering; traditionally, sequential work processes in product development and production planning are carried out at the same time. As a result, development time can be significantly shortened, changes can be reduced and overall coordination with the customer can be improved. The inverter, another component of the electric powertrain, converts the battery's DC into AC to drive the electric motor. The more effectively the conversion works, the greater the range that electric cars can drive on a battery charge.

Martin Drasch, CEO of Manz AG, comments: "As expected, our order intake is increasingly benefiting from the high market dynamics in the field of e-mobility. At the same time, our successful development work in the production of assembly solutions for inverters and the trust of a very exciting new customer in particular highlight our distinctive expertise in all key components of the electric powertrain. With our decades of experience in assembly automation and battery production, we believe that Manz is correspondingly well positioned to continue growing during the global mobility revolution.“
